Keeping weevils out of grain without chemical tablets

I have been keeping neem leaves and dried red chilli in my grain containers and still found weevils in a jar of whole wheat this month. The container was steel with a tight lid, kept in a dark cupboard. It is possible the eggs arrived with the grain rather than afterwards, in which case storage was never going to be the fix. Has freezing new grain for a few days before storing worked for you, and how long do you leave it in?
